DENSJT Statistical Shell-Model Level Density Computer Code Description and User's Manual

Detailed calculations 1-3 have demonstrated that the shell model level density is approximately Gaussian in shape. Consequently, these level densi¬ties can be described by calculating the first few low moments of the Hamiltonian. In many cases such as in Hauser-Feshbach calculations, where de¬tails of individual levels are not needed, the statistical method is simpler and more economical than solving the shell-model problem exactly. This is especially true when the number of active nucleons becomes larger than two.
