摘要

An increasing environmental consciousness has generated interest in the properties, "societal flow," and metabolic effects of toxic trace elements. Of particular concern are those elements known to have caused human death and disease in instances where exceptional levels of pollution have occurred but for which the hazards presented by the usual levels of environmental flow are diffi¬cult to assess. Cadmium is such a trace element (unless otherwise referenced, the following discussion derives from information presented in recent reviews). It occurs in the earth's crust at 0.15 ppm and in soil at about 1 ppm.
