Experimental tests conducted as part of a program to develop a CO sub 2laser oscillator having the following performance characteristics as objectives are described:energy of single output pulse equal to or greater than 15mu J,length of output pulse approximately equal to 30to 60ns,pulse repetition frequency approximately equal to 6to 10kHz,and time delay between command trigger pulse to electro-optic modulator driver circuit and appearance of laser pulse is less than 1mu sec. Pulse to pulse jitter of this delay time is less than +-10percent of laser pulse width. Tests were performed with a CO sub 2waveguide laser which was Q-switched by an intracavity cadmium telluride electro-optic modulator. Q-switched pulse performance has been measured over a range of discharge mix ratios,discharge pressures,discharge currents,and output mirror reflectivities. The experimental configuration is described. The results obtained,including parametric dependencies,are included. Proposed modifications for improved performance are discussed.
