HOTRAN-2 is a digital computer program for predicting the thermal and hydraulic performance of an open-channel reactor core. The core, or a section of it, is divided into two parts: the first part is assumed to consist of a large number of normal channels, the other part, of a small number of hot channels. It is assumed that thermal and flow parameters are unaffected by cross-flow. The code was primarily designed for power and flow transients e.g. associated with a loss of coolant flow accident, but it has also been used for steady-state calculations. The code calculates single-phase and two-phase enthalpy, density, steam quality, temperature and mass flow rate of the light water coolant as functions of time and space coordinates.
