Development Progress and Possible Applications of the Fluidized Bed Furnace

The development of fluidized bed combustion as well as the goals of development projects for commercial generation of heat and electric power are reviewed. The results show that it is unclear at this time which direction the development of the fluidized bed combustion will take and what its future is in general. The first large-scale projects are now at a stage that will require a decision for the future. Results obtained and preliminary calculations concerning the cost effectiveness of fluidized bed combustion indicate that the process might become an economical, environmentally acceptable system that will permit us to use poorer quality inexpensive primary energy sources.
