Alpha Decay Width and the Structure of the alpha Particle

The influence of the alpha particle intrinsic structure on the alpha decay widths in the lead region have been studied, by using the Taylor-series method for transforming four-nucleon wave functions from individual coordinates to the relative and c.m. coordinates. It is shown that the inclusion of the higher shell model configurations in the description of the alpha particle intrinsic structure, in such a way to reproduce the experimental form factor derived from electron scattering on He-nuclei, improves somewhat in the Pb-region the description of the relative values of the alpha reduced width and decreases their values at the surface of the nucleus by a factor close to 10.
