The work objective of the contract was to estimate preliminary capital requirements and operating costs for a commercial plant which would use coal liquefaction products for the production of aliphatic and aromatic chemicals The technical approach pursued to meet this objective con¬sisted of four steps.n1. Coal liquefaction process samples from four different processes were obtained.n2. Laboratory evaluations, including analytical inspections and processing studies were carried out.n3. Data from the laboratory evaluations was reduced so that a conceptual chemicals plant process description, including preliminary process flow sheets and material balances, could be prepared for each liquefaction pro-cess product.n4. One of the liquefaction products was 3elected which would feed a commercial scale chemicals production complex for which preliminary capital investment and production costs were estimated.
