The Final Report of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Cryogenic Power Transmission Technology Program covers the period from July 1, 1976 to September 30, 1976.nThe apparatus used in the experiments is summarized and briefly described. Much of this equipment will be transferred to other ERDA-supported laboratories.nThe entire body of results obtained during the course of the program on breakdown of liquid helium and on breakdown and partial discharge in thin polymer films is summarized. Recent work on ac breakdown for small gaps in supercritical helium is reported for temperatures and pressures ranging from 4.2 to 12 K and 0.3 to 1.5 MPa. Possible mechanisms for helium breakdown in various thermophysical states are considered.
