MPACT OF ALTERNATE FUELS ON REFRACTORIES AND REFRACTORY INSULATIONS PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR, WASHINGTON, D.C., SEPTEMBER 21, 1976 ENERGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL ENERGY CONSERVATION
1) The refractory industry is converting from over 80% natural gas fuel sourcing to a high reliance on liquid fuels.n2) Some coal firing is done where process temperature does not exceed 2300°F.n3) Liquid fuels cause process problems in clay raw material calcining because of effluent controls and in the MgO manufacturing because of liquid fuel sulfur content.n4) Operating problems with liquid fuels versus gas are negligible if the inherent added expense (both capital and operating) of liquid systems is ignored.
