In Chapter I, seven criteria for the development of a suitable analytical method for the determination of As, Sb and Se were cited. Criterion one is satisfied by the data in Table 8, page 45. Criteria four through six are also satisfied to a high degree by the hydride evolution-ICP technique, but criteria two, three and seven are not. Of the latter three, the inter elemental interaction caused by the simultaneous presence of group VA and VI A analytes in the sample is the most significant. With reference to these interelement effects, the results reported in this thesis have provided the following insights into the nature of the interactions.
