ERDA ISSUES JULY-SEPTENBER 1076 HYDROGEOCHEMIACL REPORT FOR ROCKY MOUNTAIN STATES AND ALASKA

To date, water and/or sediment samples have been collected from some 47 000 sample locations covering about 504 000 km2 which represents 19% of the area assigned to the LASL for the HSSR program. Slightly over half of this sampling work was done this quarter and Included the first commercial, helicopter-borne sampling contract in Alaska where 4468 locations were sampled over an area of 94 000 km2. The emphasis of last quarter placed on increasing the throughput ca¬pacities of the LASL analytical laboratories has pro¬duced tangible results. Thus far in the program, ura¬nium determinations have been made for some 12000 water samples by fluorometry and for over 15000 sedi¬ment samples by delayed-neutron counting. The main effort of this quarter has been directed toward com¬pleting all outstanding commercial sampling contracts, analyzing the backlog of water and sediment samples, and effectively spending the supplemental funds allo¬cated to the LASL to insure that they were put to good use for the maximum benefit of the HSSR program.
