THE APPLICATION OF NEAR-TERM FOSSIL TECHNOLOGIES TO THE ENERGY SUPPLY DEMAND PROFILES OF U. S. STATES AND REFIONS

There is a growing awareness at all levels of government of the need to match our increasingly diversified energy technology with the special requirements, as well as the economic, social and environmental charac¬teristics, of states and regions of the country. Regional meetings have been held throughout the country to inform the general public of ERDA's efforts to develop energy resources. Many of the states and Regional Commissions have evaluated their own energy resource and technology requirements. However, both the Federal effort to increase public aware¬ness of the National Energy Plan and individual state analyses of energy resources have been, in a sense, like two men looking into opposite ends of a telescope. One man sees the energy picture in terms of broad national priorities and requirements, the other in terms of local needs and considerations. Each of them has come to a logical but somewhat limited conclusion, based upon his own perception and experience.
