The work to be performed in each phase is described below:nPHASE I - ESTABLISH SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND DEVELOP NEW CONCEPTSnSurvey coal gasification systems and establish coal feeder requirements imposed by the various processes being considered for commercial-scale coal conversion operations.nPHASE II - LABORATORY - SCALE COAL FEEDER DEVELOPMENT -SCREW FEEDER CONCEPTnThe objective of the laboratory scale coal feeder test program is to design, fabricate, and test two sizes of coal screw feeders, a Negri Bossi V-12 and an IMPCO 1500 machine with 1½ and 5½ inch diameter screws, respectively, to determine system capability and performance as a function of various design and operating parameters.nPHASE III - PILOT PLANT SCREW FEEDERnDuring Phase III of this program, the IMPCO 1500 5% inch diameter screw feeder previously tested during Phase II will be installed and operated in a pilot plant.
