摘要

The goal of this program is to produce soiar-cell-grade silicon at 3000 Mt/y for less than $10/kg by 1986. The approach is to improve the quality of the 200,000-Mt/y process for producing $l/kg, 98% pure metallurgical silicon.nCommercially available, high-purity raw materials were successfully smelted in a small arc furnace to produce silicon of higher purity than metallurgical silicon. Future use of purified charcoal should increase the purity of such silicon to even a further degree.
