Solar Collector Manufacturing Activity and Applications in the Residential Sector, January Through June 1977

The Energy Information Administration within the U.S. Department of Energy has completed its sixth semiannual survey of private firms that manufacture and sell solar collectors. This survey covered the first half of calendar year 1977. The purpose of the survey is to obtain descriptive statistics on economic activity in the solar heating and cooling area and to identify production growth in this small, but developing, industry. For the first time this report also includes an estimate of the number of installations that have been made in the residential sector as a result of production during this 6-month period. The establishment of such a data series will allow for the monitoring of progress toward meeting solar energy installation goals in the residential sector. In subsequent issues of this report it is anticipated that data, currently being collected by the Bureau of the Census at the Department of Energy's request, will be available to provide more precise estimates of the number of solar energy installations in the residential sector.
