That the beta values needed to achieve reactor level power densities can be obtained is verified by a study of stability to ballooning, axisymmetric, and kink modes. Analyses are also made of the design considerations inherent in low operation and the prospects for preventing or controlling plasma disruptions.nFinally, attention is devoted to the physics of the plasma edge. Topics addressed include impurity flow reversal and the speculation that the requirement of thermal stability of the plasma boundary determines the maximal achievable plasma density.
