The feasibility of the disposal of 600,000 gallons of stored high-level neutralized Purex waste and acidic Thorex waste by hydraulic fracturing and injection into the deep shale beds beneath the Nuclear Fuel Services, Incorporated West Valley site was assessed.nThe West Valley New York site geology consists of gently dipping Upper Devonian shales which are overlain by Pleisto-cene glacial deposits. The east and northeast part of the site is underlain by a deep preglacial buried valley which is filled with up to 550 feet of glacially derived sediments.
