High Temperature Penetrant Procedure for Liquid Metal Pipe Welds

A high temperature penetrant test developed for in-service inspection at the FFTF reactor can be performed at 400 exp 0 F (205 exp 0 C) achieving equal sensitivity to a standard test at ambient room temperature. However, the procedural control such as dwell time, cleaning, and development must be tightly controlled to achieve this result. The personnel performing the test must be well trained in the penetrant process and will require further special training in the high temperature technique. (ERA citation 04:023078)
