Minimization of the Production of alpha-Bearing Wastes in Fuel Reprocessing Plants

Various methods for concentrating and separating alpha contaminants are reviewed: evaporation, combustion, washing and lixiviation. Their effects on the operation of a fuel reprocessing plant are considered. Guidelines for design of the plant are given. Finally, economic aspects are considered briefly. (ERA citation 03:052119)
