Legal, Administrative and Financial Aspects of Long Term Management of Radioactive Waste

Radioactive waste management raises technical, political and legal problems. The technical question covers mainly choice of the method and the location for waste disposal or storage: seabed, geologic formations or a disposal facility. The political problem is mainly acceptability by the public of decisions taken or planned by the competent authority. Finally, the legal frame is an important factor in the definition of long-term control. The institutional system to be created requires political consensus and an efficient and credible technique so as to be successful. (Atomindex citation 10:421634)
