Surface Methods for Determining the Electrical Conductivity of Core Samples.

An electrode configuration is described for measuring the electrical conductivity of a core sample that does not require access to the ends of the sample. The methods can be made relatively insensitive to the shape of the sample,eliminating the need for machining. Validation of the measurement technique is provided by comparing results obtained from this method with actual measurements perpendicular and parallel to the core axis on granite samples. The seed idea for a new data inversion method is discussed,which could provide a three-dimensional picture of the low frequency conductivity profile throughout a sample (i.e.,an impedance camera).
