Interim Report on Interdigitated Back-Contact Solar Cells

The purpose of the work reported is to design, fabricate, test, and deliver silicon interdigitated back contact solar cells designed to operate at high sunlight intensity. A brief description of the Interdigitated Back Contact (IBC) cell is presented and the potential advantages of such a cell are outlined. The present performance of this cell under concentration conditions is presented along with the work plan which is being followed to attain the goals outlined for this program. This is followed by a description of various test and diagnostic facilities which have been constructed for this work. The cell design and the cell fabrication processes which have been investigated are described. A great deal of testing and experimentation has been performed on the cells. The results of these tests are reported. Present understanding of the cell and recommendations for further work are summarized. (ERA citation 08:040492)
