The purpose of this document is to present an overview of the Department of Energy (DOE) program in Distribution Automation and Control on the Electric Power System. Principal responsibility for this program resides within the Load Management Branch of the Division of Electric Energy Systems, under the Assistant Secretary for Energy Technology. The Distribution Automation and Control (DAC) program directly supports major Division programs in Load Management and Systems Engineering. Additionally, the DAC program supports other Energy Technology divisions, such as Solar and Energy Storage Systems, through the development of communications and control systems and procedures required for the system-optimal integration of alternative energy resources and other dispersed technologies
