摘要

Operational, programming, and circuit details are given for a system designed at Sandia Laboratories, Livermore, for preprogrammed controlled movement of the electron beam within the Hamilton Standard Welding Chamber. The system is comprised of two parts, each of which is microprocessor controlled. The desired beam pattern is first drawn on a 20-in. x 20-in. piece of paper and then digitized. Beam rate of travel and dwell time at each point in the pattern are added. The digitized data are processed by part 1 and stored in a portable memory. The memory is inserted in part 2, which is interfaced to the welder. Subsequent controlled movement of the beam takes place. An infinite variety of beam deflection patterns is thus possible. The memory data can be recorded onto magnetic tape for later use. A magnetic tape can also be generated by computer program, so that part 2 can be used when part 1 is not available.
