Synthesis of 4- exp 14 C-Pyridine-2,6-Dicarboxylic Acid

Dipicolinic acid (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid), labelled with exp 14 C, has been synthesized, on a miniature scale, starting from formaldehyde-( exp 14 C). The radioactive label was incorporated into the '4' position of the pyridine ring to prevent possible loss of label owing to decarboxylation during experiments. The compound was intended for use in the localization of dipicolinic acid in bacterial spores. (Atomindex citation 09:381953)
