The purpose of this program is to develop a commercial atmospheric, natural circulation, fluidized-bed steam generator designed essentially as a package boiler, i.e., shop assembled and capable of shipment by rail. It must be capable of firing coal while meeting all environmental standards without the use of auxiliary S02 removal equipment and be competitive with other methods, of coal firing for industrial practice.nB. Scope of WorknThe program is divided into two distinct phases. Phase I consists of designing and constructing a Sub-Scale Test Unit. The Unit will contain a 3 x 3 foot fluidized-bed module designed to deliver 2300 Ib/hr of steam at 365 psig and 560 F while burning 284 lb/hr of coal along with lime¬stone. Phase I also includes the detail design of the demonstration plant.
