Scaling Laws for Exploding Pusher Targets

Consideration is given to scaling law treatments of exploding pusher targets for laser driven implosion experiments. It is shown that there are considerable variations in predicted scaling behaviour between the models considered and that available experimental data covers a limited parameter range with significant scatter in results. While agreement in magnitude of scaling law predictions and experimental data can be obtained with appropriate normalisations it cannot be concluded that scaling behaviour has been verified, except possibly in the case of scaling of Tsub(i), the ion temperature of the compressed target gas, with the absorbed energy (E/M) for essentially invariant R/Rrho sub 0 (R=radius of the target shell), in the LLL experiments on neutron yield described by Storm et al (UCRL 79788.
