DOE-2 is a public domain computer program which allows users to explore the energy behavior of proposed and existing buildings and their associated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Incorporating mathematical models (called algorithms) and using hourly weather data, DOE-2 calculates the hour by hour performance and response of a building whose description has been provided by the user. In addition, DOE-2 can produce an economic analysis of the energy use and the costs and benefits of making alterations in design.
