摘要

The status and progress of various techniques employed for heating the plasma to thermonuclear temperature in magnetically confined devices are presented. The merits and demerits of each technique are critically studied with a view to assess the potential of Relativistic Electron Beam (REB) heating technique, which is a new comer in the field. It has been concluded that REB heating is very much suitable for linear solenoidal reactor devices and is also a potential future candidate for plasma heating for torodial devices.
