UTILIZATION OF WASTE HEAT FROM ENERGY CONVERSION AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

The laws of thermodynamics state that no process of energy transformation can take place with perfect efficiency--some waste heat is always produced. The generation of waste heat from energy conversion and industrial processes are discussed. First-law and second-law efficiencies is defined. After listing the amounts of waste heat produced, some technological options for reducing waste heat or using it for other purposes, such as district heating, are described. (ERA citation 04:006197)
