Method for Describing Nearly Normal Penetration of an Ogive Nosed Penetrator into Terrestrial Targets.

An analytical method is proposed for describing the nearly normal penetration of an ogive nossed earth penetrator into terrestrial targets. This method,based on the concept of an expanding spherical cavity,allows the prediction of axial and lateral forces on the penetrator as well as complete trajectory information. Predictions based on this model compare favorably with experimental results. (ERA citation 04:045204)
