Calculations Following Voltage Breakdown in a Single-Ended Van de Graaff with an Accelerator Tube

Calculation of voltages and voltage gradients in the terminal, along the insulating column and the accelerating tube are described for various breakdown positions. The method uses a number of inverted-L network sections to represent the machine assuming that the tube is coupled to the column. Various forms of coupling are examined. The calculations use an iterative computer program which calculates the voltages and currents in the networks at successive small time intervals. (Atomindex citation 11:502839)
