The purpose of this invention is to provide a method for the production of powders of various intermetallic compounds. This method includes thermal decomposition of organic metal compounds and differs from the known method in the fact that the organic compound of one metal is preliminarily mixed in stoichiometric ratio with powder of the other metal, and thermal decomposition is carried through in an inert gas stream or in vacuum at 250 to 850 exp 0 C.
