Method for Using Transfer Matrix Methods for Balancing Flexible Rotors

A method is described for using measured rotor deflection data at one speed to calculate the mass unbalance of a rotor. A discrete mass rotor model similar to the transfer matrix model is used. It is expected that deflection data taken at a relatively low speed can be used to calculate weights that will balance the rotor at high speeds. The approach in this report reverses the role of the input and output variables used in the transfer matrix analysis. Here the transfer matrix equations are rearranged so that deflections are inputs and unbalance weights (i.e., defects) are outputs.
