On the Relation of Various Reliability Measures to Each Other and to Game Theoretic Values

A variety of measures have recently been proposed for measuring the relative importance of individual components in the overall reliability of a system. Several of these seemingly different measures are closely related under the conditions typically assumed in the reliability literature. The measures are also closely related to the probabilistic values of game theory. A number of seemingly different measures have been proposed; these include those of Barlow and Proschan, Birnbaum, and Fussell. Although these measures have, on occasion, been discussed together (e.g., Lambert) their relationships have not been developed. This report defines a broad class of measures which include those mentioned, and examines their properties under specified conditions.
