An Engineering Approach for Elastic-Plastic Fracture Analysis

This report presents interim results on a 3-year program to develop an engineering approach for elastic-plastic fracture analysis of flawed structures. The work has been conducted at the General Electric Company Research and Development Center under the sponsorship of the Electric Power Research Institute.nSeveral simplified graphical methods of analysis are employed in the engineering approach. These permit the prediction of the onset of crack growth, the extent of stable crack growth and possible instability conditions. Numerous examples demonstrating the use and accuracy of the approach are presented in the report.
