Workshop on User Experience With Gas-Insulated Substations

A AEC-EPRI-EL-2190two-day workshop, organized jointly by the Electric Power Research Institute and the Canadian Electrical Association, was held at the Red Lion Motor Inn in Portland, Oregon, on July 30 and 31, 1981. There is widespread interest among American and Canadian utilities in the interchange of operating and maintenance experience with gas-insulated substations. Those utilities who do not yet have GIS on their systems are likewise interested in the operating experience of those who do.nThe first day of the workshop was open to users only, and the agenda for the day consisted of user presentations on the following subjects:n• GIS Station Design and Layoutn• Specification and Acquisition of GIS Equipmentn• Installation and Commissioningn• Operation and MaintenancenOn the second day, manufacturers were invited to present their experience, status, and progress in recent developments and improvements.nThe session was concluded with a general discussion of experience, problems, etc. No formal written papers were presented. The highlights of each verbal presentation and of ensuing discussion are presented in this report.
