Value of Technical Improvements in Passive Solar Collection-Storage Devices

The value of various technical improvements in a generic solar storage wall device is examined. The improvements are evaluated in the context of a single family house and agricultural and industrial applications with high ventilation requirements. It is found that decreases in glazing reflectivity will often be of the most value, followed (in order of likely decreasing importance) by decreased absorber emittance, increased absorber absorptivity and decreased glazing emittance. These qualitative results should not be used as guidelines themselves; rather individual research programs should be evaluated using the quantitative results of this study in conjunction with other applicable materials and judgments.
