Hydrogen production via alkaline water electrolysis can be an efficient economic process. The commercially available components within the electrochemical cell (the cathode (H sub 2 electrode), the anode (O sub 2 electrode) and the interelectrode separator) have all required improvements. This study is intended to advance the alkaline electrolysis technology and demonstrate the technology using applied research hardware developed under previous contracts. The results from operating seven electrolysis modules during the previous 13 months are described. The reporting requirements for participation as part of the International Energy Agency hydrogen production program are included and the literature survey into metal applicable for hot alkaline environments is also attached as an appendix.
