Although coal conversion facilities present some unique aspects with respect to termination and decommissioning, many of the more generalized and standard practices and procedures are well applicable. As gasification and liquefaction technologies approach commercialization, there is a need for well planned and executed termination and disposal of these facilities. Although individual project-specific termination plans will eventually have to be developed, comprehensive overview plan guidelines can contribute significantly to optimization of the deactivation procedures. The focus of this document is to identify the major candidate options and to discuss methods and criteria appropriate to each. 7 tabs.
