Several alternatives for the handling of radioactive low-level wastes (LLW) from a Nuclear Energy Center (NEC) were studied. The purpose of this study was to explore and evaluate the feasibility of disposal onsite of radioactive LLW in a shallow-land burial type disposal facility, and of temporary storage onsite of radioactive LLW with subsequent shipment for disposal at an offsite disposal facility. These disposition alternatives were evaluated in comparison to continuous shipment to an offsite disposal facility such as the existing facility at Barnwell, S.C. (ERA citation 06:032050)
