The aim of this Study is to investigate the technical feasibility and economic profitability of an integrated unit for production and upgrading (including energy supply) of 100MBPD (100,000 barrels per day) of extra heavy crude from the Orinoco Oil Belt. The Study was jointly carried out from 1979 to 1981 by various companies involved in oil production, upgrading and energy generation. The main framework for the Study is the self-sufficient integrated concept, which is excellently suited to optimization e.g. via utilization of upgrading residues for field steam and utility generation.
