Biogas Technology in Denmark. Comparison of Anaerobic Digester Designs

The original project programme, which aimed at an adaption and development of a biogas technology suitable for Danish farm operations has been updated since April 1980 and extended to cover new activities as a trouble-shooting service aimed to assist owners and builders of biogas plants, research into specific technology problems, and hardware development in relation to that. Some of these are: mixing, heat exchanging, gas purification and gas utilization. Based on today's market situation and the present development in energy prices and interest level, the ''market price'' of a plant has been calculated to approximately 300,000 D.kr. (1981) in total construction costs including installation and connections to the mechanical and electrical services of the farm. The plant will produce approximately 140 m exp 3 biogas per day (65% methane) from 400 kg V.S. per day (cattle) or 320 kg V.S. per day (swine) and the annual maintenance costs shall be in the area of 5,000 - 10,000 D.kr. The three existing demonstration plants are designed for a semi-continious, mesophilic operation with feeding-in at least each day. The first year operation of the plants has been a period with lots of bothering mechanical problems to be dealt with.
