Mutagenicity Evaluation of Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (mibk) with Cover Letter.

The mutagenicity of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) was evaluated in Salmonella tester strains TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537 and TA1538, both in the presence and absence of added metabolic activation by Aroclor-induced rat liver S9 fraction. Based on preliminary bacterial toxicity determinations, MIBK, diluted with DMSO, was tested for mutagenicity at concentrations up to 2000 ug/plate using the plate incorporation method. MIBK did not cause a positive response in any of the bacterial tester strains, either with or without metabolic activation.
