Evaluation of Coal Gasification-Combustion Turbine Power Plants Emphasizing Low Water Consumption

Several power plant configurations using coal gasifiers and combustion turbines were studied. The objective was to estimate capital, operating, and bus-bar costs of electricity for configurations employing air cooling for condensing working fluids and for other cooling duties. The major findings were that the air-cooled configurations would be competitive in costs with water cooled conventional plants and only moderately higher in costs when compared to a water-cooled coal gasification-combined cycle plant.
