Pulsed x-ray photoconductivity measurements in polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF sub 2 ) films reveal that the photoconductivity is a factor of 10 to 100 smaller than polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films which are commonly used in capacitors. To date this is the smallest photoconductivity observed in a polymer film. In this report, we examine the properties of both PVF sub 2 and PET which contribute to the observed photoresponses, and a detailed comparison is made between these materials. In each case, the data are analyzed using the present models for dispersive transport in disordered materials. Data are presented for several structurally different PVF sub 2 films, and the effects of different device operating conditions on the photoconductivity of PVF sub 2 are discussed.
