The standard specification is also a VDE guide and governs the setting up and operation of lightning protection systems, including their design, augmentation, and alteration. The lightning protection is taken to mean all the installations required for both external protection of the structure by attracting and conducting the lightning to the soil, and internal protection, which includes measures taken to counteract the effects of a lightning stroke on metallic installations and electrical components.
