Nuclear Moments of Inertia at High Spins

Nuclei with highest angular momentum are discussed. The production of high spin states, and the basic ideas associated with high spin physics are reviewed. Recent developments from continuum gamma -ray studies are presented: the measurement of different average moments of inertia gives new information on the interplay between collective and single particle aspects at high spins. Finally, the exciting possibility of resolving the continuum spectra with new detector systems is examined. 8 references. (ERA citation 09:017684)
