Dissipative Effects in the Beam-Beam Interaction of Intersecting Storage Rings. Progress Report

In our most recent research, we have begun a systematic analysis of the effects of dissipation in the beam-beam interaction. Specifically, we consider the case of cylindrically symmetric beams for which a global invariant of the motion exists. This fact allows one to reduce the dimensionality of the system by two, and the original problem is converted into the study of a map of the plane into itself. (ERA citation 09:006413)
