The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive description of giant resonances of the isovector type. The three DELTA Tsub(Z) = 0, implies exp + 1 components of isovector resonances are studied simultaneously, using the theory of charge-exchange Random Phase Approximation (RPA). We derive the equations of the RPA theory for charge exchange modes using the Green function formalism. The self-consistent Hartree-Fock-RPA framework is introduced. We discuss the nature of the RPA solutions obtained in this framework, and their connection with the HF stability problem. Sum-rules for charge exchange, as well as DELTA Tsub(Z) = 0 modes, are derived. (Atomindex citation 16:023344)
